OutfitRating

Privacy Policy

Last updated November 8, 2026

This page explains what OutfitRating collects when you check an outfit or sign in, who helps us run the site, and what choices you have.

Photos you upload

When you check an outfit, your photo is shrunk in your browser and sent to our server. Our server passes it to a third-party AI image service (currently Google's Gemini API), which looks at the clothes and returns the result. We do not save your photos on our own servers.

To avoid doing the same work twice, we keep the result (the score and the text) for up to 24 hours, filed under a one-way fingerprint of the photos. The fingerprint cannot be turned back into a photo.

The AI service is run by a third party. Under the terms for Google's paid use of the Gemini API, Google does not use prompts or responses, which include photos, to improve its products. Google may log them for a limited period, only to detect and prevent abuse, and we do not control that log. Please do not upload photos you would not want an outside service to process.

Scores we keep

After each check we keep the score and the kind of check (one outfit, an outfit with a piece, or two outfits). We keep no photo and no link to you or your account. We use these numbers to see how scores are spread out, so we can keep the scoring useful.

Your history

If you are signed in, we keep the written result of each of your checks (the score, the notes and the suggested swap) so you can look back at them. Your photos are not kept, so the history has no pictures. We keep your 50 most recent results. You can delete one result or all of them on the History page, and they are deleted when your account is deleted. Visitors who are not signed in have no history.

Accounts and email

You can use the site without an account for a small number of free checks. If you sign in, you enter your email address and we send you a sign-in link. We store your email address, a count of how many checks you have used, and when you last used your daily free check. We do not use passwords.

Limits for visitors and cookies

To keep the free checks fair, we count the checks made from a browser and from a network address. For this we use a cookie that holds a random device ID, together with your IP address. We store only one-way scrambled versions of these, not the originals.

The site sets three cookies, and all of them are needed for it to work: two keep you signed in (only if you sign in) and one holds the device ID. We do not use advertising cookies or analytics cookies at the moment. If that changes, we will update this page.

Server logs

Our server keeps short technical logs: the time of a request, the kind of result, any error, and how long it took. They contain no photos and no email addresses. We use them to find and fix problems and to keep track of running costs, and we keep them only as long as that needs.

Payments

When paid packs of checks are on sale, payment is handled by Stripe, on Stripe's own payment page. We never see or store your card number. Stripe tells us that a payment went through, which pack it was, the amount, the time and the account it belongs to, and we keep that record for our accounts and tax. Stripe handles your payment details under its own privacy policy.

Who helps us run the site

We use outside services that handle data for us: a hosting and network provider (Cloudflare), a database and sign-in service (Supabase), an email service that delivers sign-in links (Resend), a payment provider (Stripe, only when you buy), and the AI image service described above (currently Google's Gemini API). We do not sell your information, and we do not use your photos for advertising.

What the site does not do

  • It does not judge your body, face, size or weight. It looks only at the clothes.
  • We do not work out who anyone is. In the two-outfit comparison, the AI does check whether the two photos appear to show the same person, so that it does not compare two different people. We keep nothing from that check.
  • We do not train any models on your photos. We have no models of our own. Under the paid terms of the AI service we use, its provider does not use your photos to improve its products either, as explained above.

How long we keep things

  • Photos: not kept by us.
  • Results: up to 24 hours.
  • Score records with no personal details: kept.
  • Your email address and check count: until you ask us to delete them.
  • Payment records (pack, amount, time): as long as the law requires us to keep accounts.
  • Scrambled device and network counters: for as long as we need them to apply the free-check limits.

Your choices

You can sign out at any time and you can clear or block cookies in your browser, though the free-check limits and sign-in will not work without them. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. To ask, email us at the address at the bottom of this page, from the email address you signed in with if you have an account. We will reply within 30 days. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your email address and your check count.

Children

OutfitRating is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.

Security

We limit who can reach the data we keep and we keep secret keys on the server only. No method of sending or storing data is perfectly safe, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Changes

We may update this page as the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
